Lotus has long been considered a flower of the divine—rising above the dark water and mud, clean and fresh, purely divine, can be considered a metaphor for the clean and beautiful soul rising above the earthly concerns, and connecting to the divine, not of this world.

Lotus have been considered holy flowers through millennia, from ancient Egypt, to the ancient civilizations of China, Korea, SE Asia and the near east, Including India and environs, modern Iran, etc.

Blue Lotus

This absolute is a dark yellow, mobile liquid with a powerful floral sweet topnote—people’s eyes often open wide when they smell the blue lotus for the first time. This is a powerful absolute with a strong “blue” aspect. It gives an impression of water, an aquatic floral with a slight fruity note. The pungency is reminiscent of hyacinth. There is also a maple syrup aspect and a powdery back note on evaporation. This flower traditionally has been used for visions; nurpharine, nupharidine and nuciferine---all psychotropic. It was steeped in alcohol and drunk in ancient Egypt.
