This is the perfume fixative one
This is a natural oleoresin, and is tapped from the tree, and used, as is, with no further refinement. There are many species of Copaiba and various parts of South America; ours is from Brazil.
Copaiba balsam (or resin) is a more or less viscous, brownish yellow, or grayish greenish yellow liquid which dries to a hard and brittle resin upson exposure to air. The oleoresin is not always clear or transluscent, but may be hazy due to its water content or to the continuous resinification of the essential oil part of the oleoresin, a process which starts already inside the trunk. The odor of the oleoresin is faint, mild-woody, slightly spicy-peppery and modestly tenacious. The flavor is bitter and irritant.
Since copaiba is mainly used for its fixative properties, the balsams, or resins with a lower content of essential oil are perferred. Thes copaibas contain 30-50% of essential oil, high enough but less than that which is actually distilled for its oil. Those copaibas have a higher oil content; from 60-80%!
Copaiba balsam blends well with cinnamon, amyris, cedarwood, lavandin, lavender, patchouli but its main use is as a fixative.
